Classic Black and Gold - Tres Chic

I have to admit, I loved these handles the very first time I laid eyes on them but as soon as I put them on the dresser, I worried they might be too over the top and I started to second guess myself. Luckily this handsome piece is for my Sister-in-Law who loves a bold statement and doesn't hesitate to tell me the truth. Thankfully, the truth is this black and gold combo looks, in a word, amazing!

I'm not sure about the age of this piece, though I did find some very interesting memorabilia hidden in the drawers of this old Thomasville dresser. Which has me wondering about the debonair gentleman who surely once owned it.

Honestly, this dresser was a thing of beauty before I every laid a finger on it...

Plus, it had these great built-in drawer dividers and jewelry holders. And this is why I love old furniture, folks! They just don't make them like they used to!

I like to believe, as beautiful as it started out, that the previous owners, who were surely chic, would appreciate it's new life and the great color combo.

There's just something about black paired with brass that makes me feel regal and well traveled...something straight out of an old black and white movie from the 1930's...

I can just imagine. Can't you?

French-style Trumeau Mirror

What do you give a teenage girl who just got a car for her birthday? A floor length mirror so she can see just how awesome she looks before she takes off for a drive in it!

Of course this gorgeous french-style beauty isn't just for teenagers. Because, while I usually do my best to stay out of a mirror, I had to make one for myself.

Completely constructed by hand while adding found objects and wood accents.

Done in very European style paint finish reminiscent of the 18th century. Mirror pictured here is done in Weathered Coral.

It's an Island Life for Me ~ A China Hutch Story

Would it surprise you if I told you this beauty is busy living an island life right now? I thought not. Gosh, could you image having this at your next dinner party or just to stare at lovingly every single day!

I'm aware that the before and after may not be that fascinating. I really wish I'd taken more during pictures. The thing with this piece is it had been "redone" before. Only the doors and drawers were still in their original state. Unfortunately it was a mess. When it was refinished it wasn't wiped down after sanding and you could see the dirt bubbles trapped under the paint. And since it was done with a sprayer, there were many, many drips here and there. So I stripped her bare and started all over again...

And that was a major job, let me tell you! But it was well worth it!

I used a similar off white but this time a more neutral one. The previous one had too many red/pink undertones. This color, appropriately enough, is call Caribbean White Walk. Isn't it fitting?

Added new hardware. I am obsessed with cup pulls! They are so simple but make such an amazing difference!

A very light and lovely distressing and she's ready for the beach!
